The Urban Plant Reclamation Ensemble, SPROUT OUT LOUD! is a project that morphed from THE ROERICH GARDEN (b. Nov '07). The Ensemble is developing into a series of on-growing activities that will evolve seasonally, welcoming ANYONE interested.
Sprout Out Loud! works to initiate awareness of plants and the natural world in the city of Montreal through specific site work and artistic response to the urban environment.
The project seeks to support and develop the relationship of Montreal residents to the land around them through collective activities that help to make parts of the city more alive and vibrant.
We promote outdoor actions and artistic responses to our city environment through:
- Plant Rescue
- Growth on unused land
- Seed Exchanges
- Public conversations and workshops
- Artistic intervention
- Planting donated trees, shrubs and flowers on abandoned sites
- Transformation of vacant sites with plantings
- Reusing containers for plant pots
- Restoring habitats for birds and butterflies.
- Random acts of plant and seed gift giving
- Outdoor moss murals
The ensemble is on-growing and looking for volunteers to assist in:
- skill sharing, ideas
- outdoor labour
- documentation, writing
- organization
- community liaison and volunteer recruitment
- fundraising, promotion
- aquiring resources and supplies
The next meeting will be announced on this blog by mid-April:
