I've been asked to create a new work inspired by a short documentary film on a retired farmer in the Outaouais region. It will be part of a travelling show that will pass through all the MRCs in the Outaouais and in the city of Gatineau from October-March. I chose a cattle farmer from Blue Sea Lake, Mr. Clément Tremblay. The sprouted cow-hide is made of burlap and wheat, one of the principal ingredients in cattle feed, next to oats and corn. Over thirteen days, the wheat transforms from germinated to sprouted grain, then dries to a sweet smelling grass. This installation at Café Radisson will be the first stop of many places that have a tie to the Outaouais region and its’ farmers. It is made to recall our inevitable reliance upon the lands we inhabit as well as the farmers working so hard to fulfill our basic needs.

La table agroalimentaire de l’Outaouais m’a demandé de réaliser une œuvre en m’inspirant du témoignage d’un producteur agricole de la région, aujourd’hui retraité. Cette œuvre fera partie d’une exposition itinérante, présentée dans toutes les MRC de l’Outaouais et dans la ville de Gatineau, d’octobre à mars 2014. J’ai choisi le témoignage de l’éleveur de bovins Clément Tremblay de la région du lac Blue Sea. Ma tapisserie germée aux allures de peau de vache est composée de jute et de blé. Après le maïs et l’avoine, le blé constitue l’un des principaux ingrédients utilisés pour nourrir les bovins. Pendant 13 jours, le blé se transformera, passant de graine germée à pousse, puis de pousse à une herbe séchée et parfumée. Cette installation amorcera sa tournée au Café Radisson et poursuivra sa route pour être exposée dans plusieurs sites ayant un lien à la région de l’Outaouais et à ses producteurs agricoles. L’installation est créée que nous n’oublions ni notre inéluctable dépendance aux terres que nous habitons ni les fermiers qui luttent pour répondre à nos besoins essentiels.
